Linda Simpson writes - We've been looking forward to this one. For some reason it's a place where we see a lot of friends and the atmosphere is such that we always have a great time.
Chris had quite a lot to do today so we were a little bit later than we intended to be but we arrived to find the stage already set up by Harry. Harry is the very excellent sound engineer and he is also a very excellent man. We added our equipment and the sound check took no time at all. The monitors were lovely and clear, which makes our job much easier. If you can't hear what you're doing properly it is difficult to sing well. Everyone has heard someone singing along to a song on headphones - they can't hear their own voice of course and the result can be frightening! Anyway - this was not going to be a problem for us tonight.
Mirjam came in to say 'Hi', she used to work at The Flint and had made us some yummy meals in the past, now she's at The Beaufort house and was preparing a lovely dinner for us all... including apple sauce especially for 'Young Barners' because she remembered how much he liked it! Needless to say he thought that was wonderful and we can testify to the fact that he cleared every last morsel from the dish.
It was all very relaxed and everyone was really nice to us - we got ready for the gig and at 8:15 we hit the stage.
It was great to see so many familiar faces; so many that I can't mention everyone by name. We had a crowd of Canadians due to the fact that they were Ineke's relatives staying at the Eekhhoornnest, Piers and Ineke were there too of course along with many other friends. It was a good atmosphere from the first note to the last.
Paul Stewart made his appearance and got a round of applause again - then took his place in the audience for the photograph.
Matt and I played a new song for us 'Ghost in this House' a song that we heard on Sunday night, sung by Alison Krauss, and decided we'd like to do. We (or rather I) made a bit of a mess of it but we think it's going to be a nice one. Every song has to be played live for the first time and that's usually the time when it all goes wrong, it did, I hope we're forgiven. It was written by Hugh Pickwood - we'll have to check out what else he's written.
It seems that everyone is pleased that Paradise Row is back in the set so we finished with it. It was quite funny as there were several strange moments in it for us - but everyone seemed to think it was great - maybe we should put more mistakes in it in future?
We'd like to thank everyone at The Beaufort House for looking after us including Mark, Tigo, Kirsten, Marplein and Ciciel - you're a great team.
Every gig on this tour has been unique - it has been quite an experience so far and we're looking forward to the rest.
